China Post is scheduled to issue a set of two stamps to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia on May 31, 2024. The stamps are jointly issued with Malaysia, and the stamp designs are named pine trees and meringue trees. The face value of the full set of stamps is 2.40 yuan. The planned number of stamps to be issued is 6.65 million sets.

China and Malaysia formally established diplomatic relations on May 31, 1974. As traditional friendly neighbors, China and Malaysia have maintained a good momentum of development in bilateral relations, with trade and investment rising against the trend, and cooperation in various fields expanding and achieving remarkable results. In 2013, the two countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership, and the consolidation and development of the comprehensive strategic partnership has played a positive role in the peaceful development of the two countries and the region. In 2023, the two countries announced the joint construction of a China-Malaysia community with a shared future.

In China, pine trees are often seen in ancient paintings and poems, and are praised as symbols of strength, elegance, and longevity. The Welcoming Pine depicted in the stamp image has a history of more than 800 years. It is like stretching out its arms to welcome guests from afar. Today, the Welcoming Pine has become a symbol of peace and friendship between China and the people of the world. Merbau is a large tree, generally distributed in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, and grows in the Malay Peninsula, Sabah, and Sarawak in Malaysia. The Merbau tree can reach a height of 45 meters and has a hard texture. It is often used in the shipbuilding industry and furniture manufacturing industry. The Merbau tree is considered the national tree of Malaysia, symbolizing Malaysia’s achievements in sustainable management and protection of biodiversity, and symbolizing the importance of forests to the country’s industry and economy.

This set of stamps is presented in the form of oil painting. Through the well-arranged layout, the appropriate shades of color, and the virtual and real changes of light and shadow, it shows the characteristics of pine trees and meringue trees that are lush and tall, standing straight to the sky, and the picture is full of vigorous vitality. The stamps are printed using high-precision multi-color offset printing technology to ensure the accuracy of the stamp pattern and the vividness of the color. The background color of the stamps is printed with spot color ink, and the title text and frame are printed with 100% gold ink. The layers are opened through color adjustment, which increases the depth and three-dimensional sense of the picture.

This set of stamps was designed by Ma Fenghui, edited by Wang Jing, and printed using offset printing technology by Beijing Stamp Factory Co., Ltd.

The stamps will be sold at designated postal outlets, philatelic websites, China Post mobile clients, China Post Micro Post Office Philatelic WeChat Mall and China Post Mall WeChat Mini Program for a period of 6 months.
