2012 turned out to be an “over printed” year. The cost of collecting for all the 2012 sets easily exceeds the overprinting days of 1998 – 2000. The sheer number of over issue of overprints at high face value turned off many collectors. As the year ends, the turn out was less and less and the demand dropped. Even the regular dealers were absent from the queue.
12 January 2012: Legacy of the Loom (Year of the Dragon)
These FDCs were cancelled in Kuala Lumpur. This is probably the hottest issue of the year (in terms of the number of persons queuing until closing time). However, the public’s interest is higher (and sustained) for the Royal Visit (13 September 2012) even though the crowd was not as heavy.
Apparently there was an error in the pamphlet’s information. This was published in the Penang Philatelic Society’s blog. Apparently the design of the dragon was taken straight out (cut and paste) from a robe in the Qing Dynasty. The pamphlet was quoted as attributing the design to the Ming Dynasty (very much earlier than Qing Dynasty).
