Make Mine Marvel!

Make Mine Marvel!

Hello there from the Bullpen Bulletin!

I guess the excitement of ordering the Pos Malaysia – Marvel – The Walt Disney Company “Marvel 80 Years” is all time high this morning. There has been a relentless request for information and checks on Pos Malaysia’s eziemall. This is probably the easiest way to buy the issue as it can be pre-ordered online and no queues! It takes a bit of patience to wait for the items to arrive but hey, all good things need time to prepare!

Which other countries issued Marvel stamps this year? That would be United Kingdom via Royal Mail on 14 March 2019. The trick in buying UK stamps is to wait for the bundle offer or sales, which is going on now!

With the continued drop on the Pound (GBP) and the discount, it is really a better offer than buying on the release date.

Hmmmm, maybe Royal Mail will see a spike in their sale of leftover stocks of Marvel after you read this!

There are plenty of decorative stamps from dubious nations on Marvel. I usually skip these. They are more cinderella than anything else. No worthy!

Another worthy issue is from United States back in 2007 on superheroes.

Right, so for the die hard fans! Whatever it takes!

Keep a look out for more tie-in news in the future!

Meanwhile for foreign readers, the item is only available for local orders. If you would like to order via myfdc, just drop a note at:

Updated 18 July 2019: Media Preview of the Marvel 80 Years Folder Set

Updated 18 July 2019: Media Preview of the Marvel 80 Years Folder Set

Today was the media preview and launch of the “Marvel 80 Years” folder set.

Marvel first started as Timely Comics back in 1939. The first comic “Marvel Comics” came out in October of the same year! One of the endearing superheroes that lasted until today is Namor, the Sub-Mariner. Timely Comics will evolve into Marvel and thus this year marks the 80th Anniversary! Here is the official 80 Years webpage from Marvel. It will be almost impossible for anyone not to have been touched by the characters that this company created.

So that brings us to today. Pos Malaysia collaborated with Marvel Studios via The Walt Disney Company to produce the “Marvel 80 Years” folder set. This is a Setem Ku (Personalised Stamps) series. Pos Malaysia first collaborated with Walt Disney Company last year to produce the sold out “Mickey Mouse Celebrating 90 Years of Magic” folder set.

This time the foyer of the Kuala Lumpur General Post Office was decked up like a Movie Premier with popcorn stands, cotton candy stands and a photo booth where anyone can get their photo taken with their favourite hero’s prop.

Hmmmm, let me try the hammer…. I am worthy! Now, where is the shield?

As Malaysia’s Mightiest Press gather themselves together against a common launch… the Marvel 80 Years Folder set was unveiled!

Here is Tan Wee (Head, Retail and Licensing for Malaysia and Singapore from The Walt Disney Company) (left of the photo) and Schrene Goh (Vice President, Marketing, Pos Malaysia) (right of the photo) during the unveiling of the products:

The folder set includes:

1. 2 PRE-PRINTED souvenir covers. Cover collectors, please take note: This is similar to the Mickey Souvenir Cover where the stamps are PRINTED along with the cancellation (PRINTED). On 18 July 2019, the first peek of the covers revealed that the covers were made with setenant stamps of 5 stuck on covers and NOT pre-printed. There are 2 designs: Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Thanos, Hulk on Cover 1 and Spider-Man, Loki, Black Widow, Black Panther and Dr Strange on Cover 2.

2. 2 perforated Setem Ku sheetlets

3. 1 imperforate sheet

4. 2 postcards WITHOUT any pre-printed stamp (Design 1 is Iron Man and Design 2 is Spider-Man)

5. 1 die-cut folder

Here is the opened up folder:

Here is the back of the pre-printed souvenir covers and postcards:

Here is the line-up:

The items are available in a folder set. There will NOT be any loose items for sale. The folder set is available for pre-order at RM 120.00 at Pos Malaysia Main Post Offices (including the Kuala Lumpur Philatelic Bureau HQ) and also through

There will NOT be any counter sales. The folder sets are expected to be delivered after 23 July 2019.

The good news is the first 300 pre-orders at the Kuala Lumpur General Post Office will receive a free miniature poster of the Imperforate Sheetlet:

And here are the unsung heroes behind all the hardwork and design:

From the left: Jackllin Foo ((Manager Hardlines, Disney), Xiu Wen (THE Designer), Haidan (Head of the Philatelic Bureau), Faizah (Pos Malaysia, Head of Marketing Unit) and Tay Chin Yaw (Lead Creative Manager, Disney).

Xiu Wen was also the designer of last year’s Mickey Mouse folder set!

Remember to be an early bird for this series. There are only 10,000 sets! Last year’s Mickey Mouse sold out in a matter of hours at the counter and online in a day. With the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a second highest grossing film in their belt, I believe there will be more than enough fans to snap it up quickly. It makes sense if you can shop in online platforms, you should be able to shop at:

There is a limit of 5 sets per order in eziemall.

Note: For foreign readers, the item is only available for local orders. If you would like to order via myfdc, just drop a note at:

Watch for the item tomorrow (04 July 2019).

You can also head over to your nearest General Post Office to place and pre-order and pay up front.

The folder sets will be ready after 23 July 2019. Please take not that this is a Pos Malaysia PRE-ORDER.

‘Nuff Said!

Updated 18 July 2019:

Pos Malaysia was busy processing the Marvel 80 Years FDC since morning in the Philatelic Bureau. This time the stamps are stuck onto the cover (unlike Mickey’s pre-printed cover). The stamps comes in setenant strips of 5. This is a different format than the stamp sheetlets inside the folder.

Orders should start to be delivered after 23 July 2019.

Next issue: 09 April 2019 Honey Bees in Malaysia

A poster was displayed at the Fournation Stamp Exhibition 2019 with the theme Honey Bees in Malaysia. The official notification came out today from Pos Malaysia and it will be released on 09 April 2019.

The poster featured the stamps in a Honey Comb design (hexagonal) with the Miniature Sheet featured in an awesome die cut of a honey bee. I am sure the “unusual” stamp and MS collectors will be very pleased with the design of this issue.

The poster gave information on the stamp issue as follows:

  1. 60 sen stamp : Giant Honey Bee (Apis dorsata)
  2. 60 sen stamp: Eastern Honey Bee (Apis cerana)
  3. 60 sen stamp: Black Dwarf Honey Bee (Apis andreniformis)
  4. RM 4.00 Miniature Sheet: Stingless Honey Bee (Heterotrigona itama)
  5. 50 sen empty envelope featuring the Stingless Honey Bee Hive
  6. RM 6.00 empty folder

This is indeed a very attractive design. Here is the price list.

Release of the Wild Orchids State Definitives 2017

Release of the Wild Orchids State Definitives 2017

Today’s final issue of the year saw the regulars at an early hour. The front liners were queuing to make FDCs (many to realise that there is only the KL cancellation – guess they are not reading myfdc – or they would have already download the forms).

Then there are those who want to try their luck to get Perlis – the most speculative state for stamps and philatelic. Recently an eBay item with 175th anniversary of UPU posted cover ended at astronomical price only to see it reappear by the same seller days later. Guess 2 hardcores were slugging it out and maybe a joy bidder helping the speculation. As I mentioned earlier, the Philatelic Bureaus will only sell loose for the respective states and it is anyone’s guess where is “Perlis” in Perlis?

Anyway, with the same number printed and not much stocks in Kangar, we can only speculate on the speculation!

The crowd thinned out by noon. There were ample stocks. I guess a lesson learned for the next state series (hopefully someone will dig up myfdc to read) is to pre-pack 14 states rather than doing it on issue day.

The KL General Post Office did that and the transactions were faster.

There was also a Christmas Setem Ku on sale today. Not many realise it or are not interested.

Mint stocks were ample even until the closing bell.

So what was I up to? Buying up and tearing up my Federal Territory MS to make Definitive transition covers. I matched the face values of the existing Garden Flowers micro-text series released this year with the Orchids. This year the Garden Flowers state series was only printed for the Federal Territory. Just so happen that the stamps were released towards the end of 2018. This Federal Territory definitive then transitions into the Wild Orchids definitive. I do not expect to see the post office sheets of the new definitives anytime soon. So the Federal Territory Garden Flowers should bloom for a while.

Thus, this was the only chance to make the concordant Federal Territory “transition” cover as it is the first day of issue plus it is in Kuala Lumpur which is one of the 3 Federal Territories.

Here are some of my handiwork:

It took a month of preparation for the harder to find corner margins. As usual, spares are available.

I am now left with lots of 05 sen and 10 sen. 🙂

Meanwhile, back to the question on where you can get Perlis?

The local post offices are your best bet. However, this time, there is not much demand for Perlis.

I will skip. I am a covers guy. Enjoy the queue.
