A Tour of Melaka

A Tour of Melaka

The day started really slow. When the counters were opened, it was only a handful of regulars.

I decided to skip the MATTA Fair in PWTC as there was no longer any philatelic event. The designer informed me that the Sarawak Tourism Bureau made their own folder designs for patrons of the Sarawak Tourism Booths. Did anyone manage to check them out?

Here is Mr KY Lim autographing the stamp products.

So it was a tour of Melaka for me!

The drive was smooth and scorching hot. The first stop was the General Post Office. Lim Stamp was busy with his stall inside the main foyer selling old FDCs and mish-mash of stamps and MS. Today’s envelopes and MS were sold out early in the morning. The stamps were still available. This was in stark contrast to the low uptake in Kuala Lumpur.

The next stop was the historic centre of Melaka.

Did you know the Jalan Laksamana Post Office used to be the General Post Office?

The situation was the same here, all the products were sold out early. There were a few concordanist who came in early. Jalan Laksamana is the closest Post Office to the Melaka River Cruise station as well as the Maritime Museum.

First was the rest stop for the famous Melaka Chicken Rice Balls with of course chicken! Wash that down at the Clock Tower Cendol stall is an ideal way to cool down in the perpetual hot Melaka.

The Melaka River Cruise is located a short walk away from the cendol stall. I prefer to walk by the side of the Melaka River. The river is continually spruced up. It looks significantly cleaner.

The River Cruise office was already visited 3 times by concordanists. This is what they were looking for.

The condition of the cachet is really bad. It is basically disintegrated. Anyway, time to move to the Maritime Museum featuring a replica of Flor de la Mar. The museum was officiated on 13 June 1994 by Dr Mahathir Mohamed!

The last stop was in Merlimau. Merlimau has been a regular stops there few years due to a few concordant designs. This time it is the Demang Abdul Ghani Gallery located about 2 minutes from the Merlimau Post Office.

It is really worth visiting. The designs are so intricate that it is mind boggling! Looking just at the exterior will give you a hint of the magnificent design!

Concordancy is fun. Care to join the next tour?

Meanwhile, what are you waiting for? Visit Melaka 2019!

Updated: 15 January 2019 Malaysian Festivals Series 3

The next issue will be released on 15 January 2019. This issue will feature the Malaysian Festival Series 3.

Previous issues of the Malaysian Festivals were on  15 August 2006 and 27 September 2012.

This time the Malaysian Festival Series 3 ties in with the Lunar (Chinese) New Year celebrations. This series features the Malaysian festivals of the ethnic Chinese, Kadazan Dusun, Dayak, Malay and Indian.

The stamps and miniature sheets feature the following:

  1. Stamps: 5 designs x 60 sen with the following designs:
    • Chinese New Year (Lion Dance and Firecrackers),
    • Tadau Kaamatan (Sumazau Dance and Gong and Sompoton),

  2. Miniature Sheet: RM 5.00 (Various festival greetings) with die cut and glitter ink
  3. Empty folder: RM 6.00
  4. Blank envelopes: 50 sen

Just a reminder: The SODA cut off date to ensure sufficient funds or updates to your order is 04 January 2019.

More updates later.

Meanwhile, the question in many collector’s mind….. how was the lunar series featured this year? The answer might crack you up and fire your collecting enthusiasm!

Updated 11 January 2019: Media Preview

Today was the media preview for this issue. I can only summarise: The special die cut with glitter Miniature Sheet is great!

Interestingly I found out that the Zodiac also applies to how the time is divided in a day! Google it. You might find something interesting! Not just the year but the time.

The brochure is also interesting with the various dates of the festivals listed making it a handy reference for our friends overseas!

So here are the products with quantities:

  1. Stamps: 200,000 pieces of each design
  2. Miniature Sheet: 25,000 pieces
  3. Blank Envelopes: 30,000 pieces
  4. Empty folders: 1,800 pieces

The above can also be bought as a folder set via Eziemall. The product is usually loaded near midnight the day before, so be cool and wait for the midnight!

The designer, Mr KY Lim (Reign Associates) will be coming over to autograph the products on the day of sale in the Philatelic Bureau HQ in the General Post Office of Kuala Lumpur.

In addition, there will also be a Special Setem Ku Greetings sheetlet to be released on the same day. Image is being finalised. I will share once Pos Malaysia releases the image.

Do look out for a special Chinese New Year franking at the main General Post Office in Kuala Lumpur. It was used last year…. perhaps again this year?

Sadly, I will not be able to join in the fun as I have a prior engagement. Do drop me a note on the response in your own location as well as the Kuala Lumpur General Post Office.

Trains and Albums and RM1 plus face value setenant

Hmmm, been waiting for the Electric Train Service for a long time?

Remember the order form in October 2018 for the ETS Overprint Setenant Strip Sheet? Apparently a lot of SODA customers were chasing and finally it was ready yesterday’s late evening.

The album looks nice and solid. The target is the vertical DYMM YDPA XV sheetlet. Included in the order is the ETS Overprint.

Look carefully at the overprint logo.

Ok, did you miss it? Here is a chance, as part of the 7th Anniversary of myfdc, here is the sheetlet at RM 1 above face value!

Into the 7th Year and another (Malaysia Day Setenant) RM 1 Below Face Value Offer with Free Postage!

Into the 7th Year and another (Malaysia Day Setenant) RM 1 Below Face Value Offer with Free Postage!

myfdc has been renewed for the 7th year. When it first started, the readership per day is hardly 10. It grew steadily especially after the Royal Visit in 2012. It is self funded and I rely on your support through FDC purchases to continue the site.

myfdc was initially set up to create awareness on concordant First Day Covers. It has moved to provide timely and important information to support concordancy. The fringe benefit is that the information is also useful to the general collecting public of Malaysian Philately. myfdc relies on information shared by Pos Malaysia and the kinder sharing readers. Information which is timely is useful. Information which is old is just coffeeshop talk and of no value. I think you know how it is. myfdc will also only publish once the facts have been reasonably confirmed. Though there are last minute changes (which you can get a faster input at myfdc Malaysia Facebook page); by and large myfdc has been able to provide the information on time.

By the end of today, myfdc will hit 590,000 views. I will run specials leading to 600,000 views expected sometime in January 2019!

myfdc has been sending freebies on a flash basis, competitions, quiz, philatelic trips (for those who took up the offer) and various really great offers for high market price items at affordable (collectors’) prices. I hope to be able to continue this with your support.

Meanwhile to kick-start the 7th year; here is another RM 1 below face value plus FREE normal mail: https://www.ebay.com.my/itm/283277592552

It is this year’s super HOT Malaysia Day setenant strip sheet. ONLY 1 sheet will be available for this deal via my eBay link. It is very hard to get the setenant during the Stamp Week queue and I am saving it for this promotion. Miss this and you can get it from dealers at RM 200 :-), you choice.

Happy bidding and many thanks for reading myfdc!
