Flashback:
Sold out… flashed some stored as I came out from Saleha Nasi Lemak after meeting the hottest DJ at the moment! How can stored be sold out so early after opening? Did they not receive adequate stocks for the launch? Are coffee drinkers so Zused up with stamps now?
Hmm the mystery deepens… why some outlet folder cards are empty… did the Starling flew away or went away on a Holiday Inn? Beep-beep-beep… a message from a expert… “Did you notice?” … I am high on caffeine “Boss”.. Whatsapp?
An image came out on the screen… hah another mistaken identity and the hunt is on…
Flashforward:
Not surprising, our Hornbill is much mistaken for the Toucan. Sarawak’s Rhinoceros Hornbill is even mistaken with the Great Hornbill (which is NOT found in Sarawak)! It ruffled so much feathers that when the Hornbill flies through the branches will break…even a Breaking News (not breaking branch) came out: https://www.facebook.com/visitsarawak/posts/-breaking-news-the-rhinoceros-hornbill-the-official-sarawak-state-bird-would-lik/901007945406264/
Even more heart breaks, the wrong hornbill was identified (even recently someone sent me a snapshot of a purported error – the error was the person cannot recognise the correct hornbill leading to the error!) and it was not the first and a video even came out: https://www.theborneopost.com/2020/07/16/zoologist-many-sarawakians-still-cannot-identify-their-own-state-bird-rhinoceros-hornbill-video/
The Great Hornbill took the crown of the Rhinoceros Hornbill akin to the saying the “Cow’s Milk but the Bull get the name” (familiar in the corporate world no?)
So the latest hunt was to locate the toucan which masqueraded as the hornbill!
The first hint…
Crop away to see a larger image:
Aha… it does look different than in the store… what’s with the tape anyway?
Then I flicked back to the Merchandise… it was too small for me but yes, the crown is missing! Just squint your eyes and you might see it!
Though the curry puff was more enticing, the horn was missing! It must be a shadow play!
After a month of relentless search from the concrete jungles to the fringe forests, the elusive pretender to the throne was found!
He had an accomplice that played in the shadow to deceive our eyes:
I am NOT going to circle this and that, I will let your eyes exercise a bit.
Note: Usually those who produce it will not be able to see it. It is called review fatigue. Pass it to a collector. Collectors have a passion on the topic. It is NOT a job to the collector, it is a hobby pursued with passion thus anything out of place becomes apparent quite quickly!
Now to look for red colour shifts. Hint – hint…
Deepest appreciation to Dr Indraneil Das for the collaboration too!
