Stamp Designed Unveiled for the 100th Anniversary of the Causeway (Ulang Tahun Ke-100 Tambak Johor)

The 100th Anniversary of the Causeway stamps were unveiled yesterday (06 May 2024) by DYMM YDPA Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the Istana. The design is a unique joint issue with each country showing their perspective of one of the busiest land crossing in the world! The stamps will be issued by Pos Malaysia and Singapore Post. The date released by Pos Malaysia is tentatively on 24 June 2024.

Here is the image from Channel News Asia https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/singapore-malaysia-king-sultan-ibrahim-visit-president-tharman-4315931

The stamps are issued in pairs:

Malaysia: RM 1 x 2 designs

Singapore: 1st and 85 cents

Additional reference: Singapore Post.

The best concordant locations will be:

Malaysia:

Pejabat Pos Taman Sri Tebrau Post Office: https://maps.app.goo.gl/c4WbdpLFZLNdNTow5

Philatelic Bureau Johor Bahru GPO: https://maps.app.goo.gl/CRBs7KJfFCt7dtNS8

Singapore:

Philatelic Bureau (Philatelic Store) Singapore Post GPO: https://maps.app.goo.gl/STzwzphL7eG6Nqc77

This is a good chance to make cross border joint covers!

Let’s see if there is any special event nearer the date. Hopefully both Pos Malaysia and Singapore Post will make an early announcement to facilitate travel and orders.

  1. Hello,

You will receive this e-mail in response to your post of today about the Malaysia-Singapore joint issue on 24 June.

Allow me to refresh your memory a bit… I am a collector of joint issues and I provide (on a voluntary, non-profit basis) a small group of fellow collectors with new joint issues: stamps and mixed products (folders, max. cards, FDC’s) with stamps of the countries involved, with the first day stamp.

When I make mixed FDCs, I usually do so by supplementing the official FDCs with the stamps of ‘the other country’. If the official FDCs don’t have enough space to add other stamps, I design a larger FDC myself. In all cases, I send the envelopes to the relevant postal companies for stamping (sometimes through an intermediary, for example in the case of Singapore and Bangladesh). Thanks to the willingness of many postal companies, I have been able to make dozens of different mixed FDCs.

In 2015 you helped me obtain mixed FDCs, but I don’t remember exactly how that went. For example, I don’t know if I bought ready-made mixed FDCs from you or if you played a mediating role. That is why I have a number of questions. I hope you have the time and will take the time to reply to me.

    1. Are you planning to make mixed FDCs based on the FDC of Malaysia?

    2. If I make a mixed FDC based on the FDC of Singapore, can I send it to Malaysia Post for the stamping? In other words: does Malaysia Post still stamp well after the day of issue?

    3. If I can't send to Malaysia Post myself, are you willing and able to arrange the stamping, well after the day of issue, or do you know someone who could and would like to do that?

    4. Do you know if official mixed items (FDCs, MCs, leaflets, etc.) will be produced?

Sincerely and thank you for your attention,

    Jaap Sarelse

    1. Hello Jaap! Sorry for the late reply. I was traveling around. I remember, it was the ASEAN Joint Issues. I was making a lot of covers and made some plus information on an ASEAN Pack for you.

For this issue I might not be able to make it. I cannot confirm yet. By the way yes Pos Malaysia will help do stamping of covers, and for this it should be in Johor Bahru (check my links in the article). I am not sure about the Singapore Post side.

Watch out for further details later on. Thanks for continuing to read myfdc.me
