The World’s FIRST First Day Cover was a next next next next next day cover!

Have you seen the world’s FIRST First Day Cover? It turns out that it is not too far away from our next day covers!

Here’s why: The Penny Black was issued on 01 May 1840. However the stamp was only valid for postage on 06 May 1840! Thus it was 5 days later that the First Day Cover as we know it today was available! Sound very familiar to “Date of Issue” and “Date of Sale”?

Here is a photo from the Royal Mail’s presentation pack’s information. All rights belong to Royal Mail.

So now, you have seen a picture of the world’s first First Day Cover on an “official” envelope too!
