Well, usually we talk about stamps unless….. the coins match the stamps!
Bank Negara Malaysia will release a set of coins on 06 June 2016 for this occasion. However, Pos Malaysia plans to issue the stamps only on 21 November 2016!
The coins were launched in Langkawi earlier today. There will be three formats:
- Coin cards of a single Nordic Gold with a face value of RM 1.00 selling for RM 10.60 (10,000 pieces)
- Single Silver with a face value of RM 10 selling for RM 212.00 (500 pieces) Note: Do not expect to get this unless you start queuing a day earlier (Sunday 05 June 2016) before 6pm!
- Set of Two (Silver and Nordic Gold) selling for RM 265.00 (2,000 pieces)
All the selling prices are inclusive of GST of 6%.
This year, Bank Negara Malaysia has been issuing coins rather very frequently. Usually the Set of Two hardly see any demand whereas speculation is rife on single silver due to the low number of boxes produced. It has come to a stage where coins are no longer valued. The box and certificate is more valuable than the content. Quite an irony – coin collectors speculate on boxes and certificates whereas cover collectors speculate on envelopes!
Here is the design of the Silver coin. The image is from Bank Negara Malaysia and all rights belong to Bank Negara Malaysia.
