Updated 22 October 2018: 22 October 2018 Installation of KDYMM Sultan Sallehudin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah Sultan

The next issue will be the installation of KDYMM Sultan Sallehudin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah Sultan, the 29th Sultan of Kedah.

The products are:

  1. Stamps: 60 sen x 3 designs
  2. MS: RM 5.00 (metallic gold printing)
  3. Empty folder: RM 6.00
  4. Blank envelopes: 50 sen

The issue will be on sale on 22 October 2018. However, Kedah will only see the sale on 23 October 2018 as 22 October 2018 is a Public Holiday. For Kedah collectors, it might be prudent to head over to Penang or Perlis to buy the issue first before cancelling the FDCs on 23 October 2018.

Concordant locations are: Alor Setar GPO, Anak Bukit Mini Post Office and Jalan Raja Post Office (many thanks to a friend who reminded me).

Anyone keen to make the trip up North and back on the same day? Drop me a note – we can car pool.

Stay tuned for further updates.

Updated 19 October 2018:

Today was the media preview. It was well attended by the media.

The quantities are:

1. Stamps: 230,000 pieces of each design

2. MS: 25,000 pieces

3. Empty folder: 3,300 pieces

4. Blank envelope: 33,000 pieces

The designer is from Tigris Malaya Studio. The designer has been invited to an autograph session.

SODA members will receive the Alor Star cancellation.

Here is how the folder looks when opened up:

Here is the back of the blank envelope:

I sense you are digging your old stamps to match…. 🙂 Yes, it is a good time to re-purpose the old stamps for some good use.

After relooking at the logistics, it is better for the Kedahans to head on over to Ipoh to buy the products. The queues there are shorter and the customers are faster. You can even have lunch before heading home. It will be a nice day trip compared to queuing in GPO Penang.

Perlis usually do not have sufficient stocks.

If you are really adventurous, head on over to GPO KL to buy by about 10:00 am when the bulk of the regulars are done and the queues are thinner. You can be back in the same day leisurely with the designer’s autograph!

Don’t say I did not give you the heads up. You decide.

All the best and Kedahans, do drop me a note on the situation on the ground on 23 October 2018 at various post offices. It will be fun to have these recorded.

Updated 22 October 2018:

The crowd in the Kuala Lumpur Philatelic Bureau was a little better than previous issues. The apprearance of 2 runners from the Numismatic community is always a good indication someone from the Numis side of the world is buying up. I am guessing to pair up with the medallions.

The designer from Tigris Malaya Studio, Mr Ihsan Ramli came slight after 10:10 am for the autograph session.

Trivia: Mr Ihsan Ramli is also the designer of the Tun Dr Mahathir folder!

22 October 2018, 09:00 pm evening update:

The Alor Setar General Post Office was surprisingly opened for half day with a limited number of FDCs on sale. It was sold out by about 11:00 am and new stocks are being brought in for 23 October 2018.

Many were caught off-guard as the announcements said 23 October 2018. However, this was just in tge Alor Setar GPO. All other post offices were closed.

    1. Hi Daniel,

This issue does not have a SODA form. The items are processed from existing SODA.

To find out more about SODA, use “Search” and type “SODA”.

  1. Did you notice that Tuanku’s name was misspelt on all 3 stamps? Suppose to be “Sallehuddin”. One letter L is missing.

    1. Hi S Pillai,

Indeed it is! Thanks for highlighting!

I have been busy with today’s Jit Sin Issue (of late many many stamp issues). In retrospect, everyone who wants to buy a set or more would already own it. Thus it is a constant error.

      Let’s see how things develop.

Thanks for reading and sharing to myfdc readers! I really appreciate it.
