A Towering Look of the Menara of the Meranti

Well, the SODA statement for the World Post Day stamp issue, gave a glimpse of what is coming out for the next issue, i.e. “The World’s Tallest (tropical) Tree – Sabah”.

The tree is “Menara” which is a Yellow Meranti (Shorea faguetiana).

Since I am no expert on trees, they all look grand and well out of reach at lofty heights…. here is a good read: https://www.theborneopost.com/2019/09/15/from-small-seeds-great-dipterocarp-trees-grow-yet-taller/

The stamp issue will comprise of:

  1. Single 90 sen stamp
  2. RM 8 Miniature Sheet (expected to be vertical!)
  3. RM 1 Postcard
  4. An expectation of a folder….. the SODA statement does not list this item….

Interestingly the title on the SODA statement is more accurate… “Pokok Tertinggi di Dunia Tropika” (Tallest Tree in the Tropical World). The tallest tree in the world is still the redwood (Sequoia sempervirens).

When will it be issued? So far: https://myfdc.me/2020/11/17/17-november-2020-latest-updated-2020-malaysia-stamp-issue-schedule-programme/

Maybe time to check out FRIM to learn more about trees!
